Do doctors pay for their own medical malpractice insurance?

If a doctor is employed by a hospital, the hospital will pay the malpractice insurance.  If working in private practice, the medical group will pay the malpractice insurance bill.  Therefore, theoretically, in a private practice model the cost of malpractice insurance is “paid” by the doctor because it impacts the net profit of the medical group, and thus the doctors’ individual salaries.
